Describe yourself briefly.

An Ohio native, Mr. Williams studied at the Universities of Colorado, and Neuchatel, Switzerland. He is the author of a book on the Vietnam War, and of numerous articles published in Nature, Outside, The New Republic, The Nation, the New York Times Magazine, New Times, Solar Today, and other publications.

Mr. Williams was a correspondent in Vietnam and later worked as a writer/producer for WNBC-TV News in New York. In 1987, he joined Greenpeace USA as its national media director where he became interested in renewable energy and solutions to global warming.

The former journalist promoted solar energy for the Carter Administration, working for the Assistant Secretary of Solar Energy and Energy Conservation at the U.S. Department of Energy. He has been a consultant/advisor to the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank for which he designed national solar rural electrification programs in Africa and Asia.

Williams recounted his story of bringing solar to thousands of rural families in 11 countries in Asia and Africa by authoring CHASING THE SUN: Solar Adventures Around The World. Mr. Williams is currently a business consultant and solar energy advocate.
